Growth in Oceania. Reflections and Visions by Ross Gibson
Joining Intradco Global as Business Development & Delivery Manager for Oceania and ASEAN has been an intensive, rewarding first month. It’s given me a real appreciation for the technical discipline and operational standards that define Intradco’s reputation worldwide, and for the scope of opportunity in expanding our reach across these markets.
My background spans over two decades in livestock movements, from paddock selection to loading ramp execution. I’ve worked directly with producers, exporters, airlines, and veterinarians, managing all the operational variables that define successful live animal transport. At Intradco, that same detailed focus is evident in our stall engineering, route planning, and welfare compliance, but with added scale and sophistication in data-led decision-making.
This expanded market scope, Oceania and ASEAN, is a critical strategic frontier. We’re talking about major exporters of cattle, sheep, and genetics, but also growing demand for high-value equine movements, from racing thoroughbreds to leisure horses. For example, heat and humidity in ASEAN demand precise ventilation planning and pre-departure acclimatisation. Veterinary certification processes in Australia have unique verification steps that must be integrated seamlessly into booking systems. My goal is to ensure our service design accounts for these local details without compromise.
Additionally, the region’s strong trade links with the Middle East, North Asia, and Europe mean these aren’t single-lane opportunities but complex, multi-leg supply chains needing specialist oversight. From a technical standpoint, my experience adds an understanding of tropical environmental stresses, breed-specific transport requirements, and regional regulatory regimes.
What impresses me most so far at Intradco is the commitment to closing the feedback loop, from operational data to equipment redesign to handler training. That first-principles approach is exactly what this region will demand as customer expectations rise and regulations tighten.
Key goals for the remainder of 2025:
- Establish direct relationships with key exporters, importers, and agents in Australia, New Zealand, and ASEAN to map demand in detail.
- Integrate regional veterinary and customs requirements into Intradco’s booking and documentation systems to ensure frictionless cross-border movements.
- Develop a clear network of preferred airline partners in the region to secure consistent, welfare-compliant capacity.
- Launch tailored training for local handlers and partners, ensuring our welfare-first philosophy is applied consistently at every touchpoint.
- Contribute to ULD innovation by being in direct feedback with the market, continually and proactively being in sync with the evolving market needs and opportunities.
It’s early days, but I’m convinced Oceania and ASEAN will be a major growth driver for Intradco, and I’m determined to help us become the trusted, technically expert partner our customers in the region need.
