Celebrating Women in Aviation: Sara Havers, Cargo Account Manager Equine at Intradco Global
To celebrate International Women’s Day at Intradco Global we are shining a spotlight on women in aviation and the huge variety of roles available in the industry.
Sara Havers has been working in the aviation industry for 18 years in total. Before joining Intradco Global 6 years ago she previously worked as a Shipping Agent for a company that is now, years later, one of her clients at Intradco Global!
After studying Equine Science and Business Management at Uni Sara went on to work as a Travelling Competition Groom for a Dutch Event Rider which is where she was lucky enough to fly with high class competition horses worldwide.
Sara’s role is to oversee all equine-related enquiries and flights,
“I will take an enquiry from initial contact with the client, obtain the best and most commercially effective solution with a carrier, and see it through to the flight operations process until the horses have landed and offloaded in which ever worldwide destination that may be!”
She loves the variety of the role, adding,
“I deal with anything from small scheduled movements up to full volume 747 freighters, and everything in between. I get real enjoyment from juggling lots of flights at once and giving my clients the best service possible.”
Her passion for horses goes a long way,
“I have worked on the other side of the industry, so I know the demands of the client. Horses are not general cargo; they cannot be left in a warehouse. I love finding a solution to a problem and getting good feedback and then repeat business from my clients”.
The aviation industry is historically a male-dominated environment, which Sara believes is due to stereotyping women as flight attendants “rather than pilots, engineers, load masters, or working in any other aviation sector. Women need to keep pushing forward so we can be solid role models to other women who may be looking at brokering, charter operations or any of the other positions available to them in aviation as their future career.”
Sara would love to see more women in the industry that she loves,
“Aviation is a huge global industry with thousands of different roles all suited to women. Set your goal and go for it. There is no job in the industry out of bounds to women! Never feel intimidated by the male environment; embrace it and be the best you can be.”
